On Saturday, September 17 at 7:30 pm, saxophonist and composer Christopher Brellochs presents a concert celebrating the CD release Quiet City, a world premiere recording of music by Aaron Copland and other American 20th century composers. The concert, at Christ Episcopal Church, 20 Carroll St, Poughkeepsie, features Brellochs and his new adaptation of Aaron Copland's Quiet City. Although Quiet City has been an orchestral favorite for 70 years, Brellochs recently discovered the unpublished manuscript of incidental music to the play. He adapted the score, using the original instrumentation and restoring musical themes that have never before been heard. At this concert, Brellochs will describe his journey with this composition from incidental music to world premiere recording.
Also performing are GRAMMY-nominated pianist Allison Brewster Franzetti, New York City Opera principal trumpet Donald Batchelder, clarinetist Mitchell Kriegler, and saxophonist Paul Cohen. The program features selections from the new CD Quiet City (Sono Luminus DSL-92135). The recording features American music by Aaron Copland, Leo Ornstein, Robert Aldridge, Walter Hartley, Lawson Lunde, and Seymour Barab.
Christopher Brellochs lives in the Hudson Valley where he is a professor and chair of the music program at Dutchess Community College in Poughkeepsie, NY. He earned a doctorate from Rutgers University, a master's degree from New York University, and a bachelor's degree from Ithaca College. His other recordings include solo CD, Apotheosis of the Saxophone (2008).
